BEIRUT, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese President Emile Lahoud has expressed hope that the United Nations will be capable of assuming its role with all impartiality.
Lahoud expressed his hope in a written letter to the newly elected UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, a presidential statement said on Wednesday.
In his letter, Lahoud congratulated Ban and asserted that reforms should be promoted to the international organization to make its decisions binding.
"This would enable the UN to achieve world justice and peace, and would boost its credibility worldwide," Lahoud was quoted assaying.
He also pointed out that Lebanon, which is one of the key founders of the UN, looks forward to a more effective role by the international organization to achieve a just, lasting and global peace in the Middle East region.
"We hope that all UN relevant resolutions would be fully implemented to secure that rights of people in the region are fully restored," Lahoud said. Enditem
