UN elects four non-permanent members of Security Council

    UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Four states were elected as the new non-permanent members of the UN Security Council by the General Assembly, Sheikha Haya Al Khalifa, the President of the UN General Assembly, announced Monday.

    Belgium, Italy, South Africa and Indonesia have been elected to serve two years in the UN Security Council, Sheikha Haya said at the plenary meeting of the General Assembly.

    However, there is still one seat undecided between Venezuela and Guatemala, she said, adding the Assembly has to carry out a second round of election. Enditem
