BEIJING, Oct. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- A vintage Beatles song lyrics say "red is
the color of my true love's hair" and now Apple is joining with U2 lead singer
Bono and Bobby Shriver to express compassion for AIDS sufferers in Africa by
contributing a portion of its revenue from a bright red iPod Nano to the
struggle against the disease.
Apple announced Monday it has expanded its iPod Nano line to include a red
model. According to a company statement, $10 from every sale of the new music
player will be donated to RED, an anti-aids organization founded by Bono and
Shriver.
"We're ecstatic that Apple is giving their customers the choice to buy a
red iPod nano and help women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa," said
Bono, in a prepared statement. "It's wonderful to see this incredible level of
commitment from companies that are willing to lend their creativity in the fight
against AIDS in Africa, the greatest health crisis in 600 years."
The bright red player complements the already available second generation
Ipod Nano, which is sold in black, silver, blue, green and pink colors. The
special edition is available as a 4 GB model only and is priced at $200 - the
same as other 4 GB Nano models.
Apple also offers a silver 2 GB version of the Nano for $150 and a black 8
