BEIRUT, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese President Emile
Lahoud on Friday called on U.S. President George W. Bush to help achieve fair
and complete peace in the Middle East.
Lahoud made the call in a statement after meeting with a U.S. church delegation led by Reverend Michael Livingston, Executive Director of the National Council of the
Churches of Christ.
"The U.S. full alliance with Israel does not
positively contribute in creating stability and security in the region," Lahoud
said in the statement.
He added that creating peace without justice,
equality and implementation of international laws regarding the Arab-Israeli
conflict would lead to more tension, chaos, extremism, and terror.
Lahoud said that the U.S. administration, once it
abandons its full alliance with Israel, is capable of playing an important role
in supporting the ongoing efforts to end Mideast regional tension based upon
activating the Arab peace initiative approved in Beirut in 2002.
He warned of the plans against Lebanon, "which take a
new form and name every time", noting that the "New Middle East" was a form for
one of these plans that aim at striking regional stability.
Earlier on Thursday, Lahoud also warned of a
full-size U.S. conspiracy against Lebanon, local Naharnet news website reported.
There is a huge conspiracy against Lebanon as the
Americans have put Lebanon as the first country in the new Middle East that
would carry out the West-style democracy, Lahoud was quoted as saying.
Lahoud was referring to U.S. President George W. Bush
administration's policy to promote peace, democracy and human rights in the
Middle East.
During her visit in Egypt on Oct. 3, U.S. Secretary
of State Condoleezza Rice explained the meaning of the "New Middle East" which
she created after the July-August Hezbollah-Israel conflict, saying the U.S.
vision for a "future Middle East in which there is a democratic Palestine living
in peace with its democratic Israeli neighbor".
In the Friday statement, Lahoud denounced that the
recent Israeli aggression on Lebanon did not achieve any Israeli goals, while
the Lebanese people gained more unity and solidarity and wasted all plans
targeting the Lebanese national unity, sovereignty and freedom, said the
Lebanese president.
He noted that Lebanon began the process of cleaning
up the areas affected by the Israeli aggression, estimating that it would take
six to nine months to rebuild the demolished towns and villages.
Lahoud, meanwhile, called for granting Palestinian
refugees the right to return to their lands and not to be naturalized in other
countries. Enditem
