KABUL, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Police in Afghanistan's northern Baghlan province have taken into custody two persons on charge of being involved in killing two German journalists, a Kabul-based newspaper reported Thursday.

"Police arrested two suspected killers of German journalists and are hopeful to find the real culprits behind the heinous crime," daily Cheragh quoted police chief of Baghlan Azim Hashimi as saying.

Unknown armed men in Abtotak village of Tala-o-Barfak district inside their tent killed two journalists, a male and a female, worked for the Deutsche Welle late last week.

Hashimi added that the journalists did not inform him about their destination to provide security for them.

The assailants sprayed bullets on the journalists, killing both on the spot.

It is the third journalists killed in Afghanistan since beginning 2006. Earlier a local journalist was killed in Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province. Enditem
