BEIJING, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- People's Daily is to issue an editorial on Thursday to hail Wednesday's conclusion of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 16th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), calling it "a very important conference in a crucial period of China's reform and development."

    At the session, the CPC Central Committee adopted the Resolution on Some Major Issues regarding the Building of a Harmonious Socialist Society. The editorial says the document is of great guiding importance for building a harmonious socialist society and it embodies the common aspiration of the whole Party and all Chinese people.

    "The 'Resolution' has inherited, enriched and developed the theory of scientific socialism and opened up a new gambit of the socialist cause with China's own characteristics," it stresses.

    The "Resolution" gives a comprehensive and profound description of the nature and principles of a harmonious socialist society. It makes the point that China's harmonious society is one shared by the whole people, and takes the socialist road with the country's own characteristics and is being built by the whole Chinese people under the leadership of the Party.

    It pledges to push forward the reform, open China wider to the outside world and make decision-making in a scientific way. It is a must to adhere to democracy and the rule of law, it says.

    The building of a harmonious socialist society must bring into full play the Party's kernel and leading role, says the editorial of People's Daily, the mouth piece of the CPC Central Committee. Enditem
