GENEVA, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Humanitarian aid to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) should continue despite the country's claim to have conducted a nuclear test, a senior U.N. official said here on Wednesday.
Some countries were now talking about sanctions against the DPRK, but all humanitarian activities in the country should not be affected, Jan Egeland, U.N. Under Secretary-general for Humanitarian Affairs told a press conference.
He said a food aid program for Pyongyang should go on and should be continuously funded by donor countries.
When asked about possible U.N. sanctions against the DPRK, Egeland said all sanctions should be targeted toward its ability to be aggressive and its behavior that undermined security.
All humanitarian activities should be exempted from any possible sanctions, he said. Enditem
