Special report: Crisis between Israel and Palestine
RAMALLAH, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Israeli and Palestinian
officials will meet next week to prepare a summit meeting between Israeli Prime
Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, an Israeli radio
reported Tuesday.
An Israeli-Palestinian meeting is due to be held next
week to pave the way for the Olmert-Abbas summit meeting, Chief Palestinian
negotiator Saeb Erekat was quoted as saying.
It was reported that Erekat met with aides of the
Israeli prime minister two days ago, though the meeting failed to reach an
understanding on a meeting between the two leaders.
However, Israeli official sources didn't confirm the
report, said the radio.
Abbas and Olmert last met in Jordan in June, a few
days before the Palestinians captured an Israeli soldier in the Gaza Strip and
demanded Israel to call off all measures imposed against Palestinians, including
the release of jailed Hamas officials, opening crossing points and left the
embargo. Enditem
