Coup d'etat in
Thailand
BANGKOK, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- The former ruling Thai
Rak Thai (TRT) Party would consult on Monday with remaining key members about
the position of acting party leader, said a spokesman Saturday.
The members would choose either
TRT deputy party leader Sudarat Keyuraphan or the former Education Minister
Chaturon Chaisaeng as a possible new caretaker leader, deputy spokesman
Chatuporn Promphan said
Meanwhile, TRT's deputy leader Pongthep Thepkanchana
was also quoted by Thailand's multimedia group The Nation as saying that Sudarat
is the "first deputy leader and de facto acting party leader."
Moreover, Pongthep on Saturday denied some media
reports that alarge number of party members are deviating from TRT. He said that
less than 100 prominent party members had resigned so far.
"It means the party is still in existence," he said,
adding that all departments of the party were still functioning normally.Enditem
