KABUL, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Unknown armed men shot dead two German journalists in Afghanistan's northern Baghlan province Friday night, local officials said Saturday.

"The ill-fated male and female worked for Dutch Villa were killed by unknown armed men in Abtotak village of Tala-o-Barfak district inside their tent last night," police chief of Baghlan Azim Hashimi told Xinhua.

The assailants, he added, had not taken any valuable things of the late journalists including computer and satellite phone.

However, Hashimi added that the journalists did not inform him about their destination to provide security for them.

The assailants sprayed bullets on the journalists killing both on the spot.

No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack and the police have initiated investigation to nab the culprits behind the crime, the police official said.

It is the third journalists killed in Afghanistan since beginning 2006. Earlier a local journalist was killed in Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province. Enditem
