Mexico slams U.S. border fense proposal

MEXICO CITY, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Mexican presidential spokesman Ruben Aguilar on Tuesday criticized a U.S. border fense proposal, saying that will be "useless and unworkable."

The comments came on the same day when Mexico's embassy in Washington sent a letter to the Bush administration, slamming a U.S. Senate vote authorizing 1,125 km of new fencing along the border.

It must still be signed into law by U.S. President George W. Bush.

Speaking to reporters, Aguilar said his country still wants a comprehensive immigration reform that would allow more people to migrate to the United States legally.

He said the border fense would affect the environment and ecology, and even the reproduction of some species.

Aguilar predicted that the two countries would eventually reach an immigration accord "sooner or later." Enditem
