LONDON, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- One British soldier was killed and another seriously injured by a fire attack in the southern Iraqi city of Basra, British Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Monday said in London.
"A soldier from the Royal Army Medical Corps was killed and another seriously injured following an indirect fire attack on a multinational forces base in Basra city", a spokeswoman for the MoD said in a statement.
She added the soldier killed will be named after his family has been informed, and the wounded one was receiving medical treatment.
The incident took place on Sunday and the death brings the British death toll in Iraq to 119 since March 2003.
Currently, Britain has some 7,200 troops in southern Iraq, most in the Basra area and about 800 in southern Maysan province. Enditem
