BEIJING, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- The streets of Beijing were lined up with wedding cars decorated by flowers on Monday, the second day of the week-long national holidays.

It's estimated that there are more than 20,000 weddings being held or to be held in Beijing around the holidays, according to the China Committee of Wedding Service Industries.

About one third of the new couples in Beijing choose to tie the knot on the national holidays from Oct. 1 to Oct. 7, according to the committee.

Some wedding service companies operated more than 20 wedding ceremonies a day. Since the wedding cars are in short, some companies have to dispatch cars from the nearby city Tianjin.

For the restaurants, wedding banquets are the main business during the holidays. Some people even reserved tables half a year in advance.

The price of roses on the flower market has doubled these days.

Most of the newly-weds were born in the late 1970s or early 1980s. And they prefer weddings with individual characters.

Guo Jia and Wang Haozhou are both lovers of ancient Kunqu opera. , With professional assistance, it took the couple four hours to dress the opera costume and performed Kunqu for guests at their wedding ceremony.

Western style weddings are trendy. Some weddings were held on boats in lakes, some on lawns, and some in churches.

There are about 10 million new couples getting married in China each year, and the expenditure on wedding exceeds 250 billion yuan(31.25 billion U.S. dollars) annually. Enditem
