BRASILIA, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Following the verification of 70 percent of all ballots, Brazil's Electoral Supreme Court, which is in charge of the general elections vote counting, announced on Sunday that the incumbent candidate Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva got 48.97 percent of the votes verified, while his opponent Geraldo Alckmin got 41.26 percent.

Vote counting is delayed in Sao Paulo, Brazils most populous state, where polls indicated that Alckmin led the presidential race. That means it is still undefined whether President Lula will be re-elected in the first round. Enditem
