MANILA, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Following the destruction brought by typhoon
Xangsane, a new weather disturbance has entered the Philippines on Sunday and
may hit the devastated Bicol region again, the weather authority said.
As of 5 p.m., tropical depression "Neneng" (local name) has entered the
Philippines and is threatening Bicol, one of the regions most affected by
Xangsane, the Philippine national weather bureau PAGASA said in a report.
PAGASA said Neneng was located 1,020 km east of the Bicol region, packing
maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center.
Moving west to northwest at 11 kph, Neneng is forecast to be 750 km east of
the Bicol region by Monday afternoon, 540 km east northeast of the region by
Tuesday afternoon, and 550 km east of Central Luzon by Wednesday afternoon, the
report added.
The latest weather disturbance is not expected to directly affect the
country within the next 24 hours, it said. But a surge of strong winds will come
to the Bicol Region, Visayas and Mindanao on Monday.
Xangsane killed at least 76 people in the Philippines, dislocated tens of
thousands of residents, causing a loss of nearly 240 million U.S. dollars,
authorities said. Enditem
