Special
report: Crisis between Israel and
Palestine
RAMALLAH, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- A prominent Palestinian
lawmaker has warned on Saturday against an expected large-scale Israeli military
operation targeting the Gaza Strip.
"The Israeli threat to invade Gaza Strip proves
plotted intentions by the occupation to disrupt Palestinian efforts to form a
national unity government," said Mustafa al-Barghouti, a well-known lawmaker
representing the National Initiative party.
He asserted that the Palestinian National Authority
(PNA) would collapse and anarchy would prevail if Israel reoccupied Gaza Strip
by force.
The Israeli state television reported on Friday that
the army put a plan to go back to Gaza Strip in a few coming days. Facing the
Israeli plan, al-Barghouti called on the Palestinian factions to form a
government of national unity to "thwart the bids that aim at tearing the
Palestinians."
He also held the Israeli government responsible for
"the consequences of its aggression against the Gaza Strip." Israeli troops have
ended 38 years of occupation in Gaza Strip last year.
However, the Israeli army restored its massive
military actions in Gaza in late June after the capture of Israeli Corporal
Gilad Shalit in Gaza Strip by three Palestinian militant groups led by Hamas'
armed wing. Enditem
