KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Malaysian peacekeepers will leave for war-torn Lebanon in a month to join the United Nations (UN) mission there, Deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak said Saturday.

Malaysia has replied to the UN that it has accepted the world body's offer and it will make arrangements to send the peacekeepers to Lebanon in a month's time, Najib said in the northern state of Pahang.

Najib, who is also Defense Minister, made the remarks when asked on the latest developments in sending Malaysian soldiers to Lebanon.

Earlier this month, Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan had agreed for Malaysia to send 360 peacekeepers to Lebanon.

Among the 360 troops, 200 Malaysian troops will assist the administrative workload at the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) headquarters in Lebanon while the rest 160 people will join the quick reaction team. Enditem
