WASHINGTON, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- The United States urged on Friday Russia and Georgia to resolve the dispute caused over Georgia's arrest this week of four Russian officers for alleged spying.

"This is an issue between Russia and Georgia, and they will decide what steps they want to take. Of course we are friends of the Russian government. We are friends of the Georgian government. Of course we talk to both sides," McCormack said at a briefing.

"On both sides, we would just urge them to put the events in the proper context," McCormack said.

According to media reports, Moscow recalled its ambassador and evacuated about 80 embassy personnel and dependents from Georgia in protest against Georgia's arrest of four Russian officers accused of spying on military installations in Georgia.

Relations between Russia and the pro-West Georgia have been cool since Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili came to power three years ago. Enditem
