BEIJING, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi has raised the
importance of food safety during a visit to central China's Hunan province.
As the seven-day National Holiday season approaches, which begins on Oct.
1, Wu urged officials to strictly supervise food security and quality to ensure
a safe food market during her visit to a rural supermarket in Liuyang.
She also inquired about the purchase channels of raw food, food processing
techniques and tests for pesticide residues.
In a recent inspection tour to Hunan, Wu urged this central province to
take advantage of central government's decision to boost central China to speed
up sustainable economic development.
"Rising of central China", including Hunan, was a long-term national
policy, Wu said.
"Hunan should seize the opportunity to develop itself through innovation
combining environmental protection with resource efficiency," Wu said.
Wu praised the efforts of Hunan people in building a new socialist
countryside and promoting the development of rural supermarkets and tourism.
