SHANGHAI, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the Shanghai Municipal Government and local Party members and cadres all resolutely upheld the CPC Central Committee's decision to investigate Chen Liangyu for his severe discipline violation, Xinhua has learnt.

    They also supported the CPC Central Committee's decision on the appointment of Han Zheng, mayor of Shanghai, as Chen's replacement.

    They expressed their resolution to go all out to maintain the stable and coordinated development of Shanghai's economy and society, and to fight corruption.

    Chen was suspended from the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and party chief of Shanghai, according to a party decision made public on Monday.

    The CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, the Shanghai Municipal Government and local Party members and cadres highlighted the significance of the CPC Central Committee's decision to investigate Chen.

    They believed that the CPC Central Committee's decision demonstrated the CPC's resolution to intensify the fight against corruption, the great importance attached to the government work in Shanghai, as well as the trust and concern for the leaders of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of CPC and local Party members and cadres, Xinhua learnt.

    Han Zheng, the acting secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, said all local Party members should study the essence of the CPC Central Committee and be consistent in mind and action, and incorporate it into various government activities.

    Han also asked local Party members to "especially cherish solidarity, considering the interests of the whole, maintain stability, strengthen their confidence, boost the morale, and be down-to-earth in their work in a bid to come up to the CPC Central Committee's expectations."

    Shanghai has gained "good momentum" in economic and social development so far this year which is a good foundation for the municipality's development in the next five years, according to the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee.

    The CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee called on local Party members and cadres to focus on the city's "development" by resolutely carrying out the CPC Central Committee's measures of macro-economic control so as to maintain healthy, coordinated and stable development of Shanghai.

    Local Party members and cadres were also asked to tackle problems which are directly related to the interests of the general public.

    The CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and Shanghai Municipal Government held that they will push forward the fight against corruption and build a clean and honest government. They will earnestly investigate discipline and law violations and severely punish corrupt officials. They will educate and save those comrades who make mistakes so as to foster the Party and social atmosphere, Xinhua has learnt.

    The CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and the Shanghai Municipal Government required cadres to reflect upon and draw lessons from the social security fund scandal, nip corruption in the bud and always be on the alert.

    They required cadres to be strict with themselves and consciously receive supervision. They also asked governments and leaders to enhance self-building based on rules and regulations and to enhance supervision and restriction on authority.

    The local Party members and cadres held that they will be under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with comrade Hu Jintao as General Secretary and hold high the banners of Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of Three Represents, Xinhua has learnt.

    They will implement the concept of scientific development and incorporate the CPC Central Committee's requirements concerning reform, development and stability into their work, Xinhua has learnt. Enditem
