BUCHAREST, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- The European Commission said Monday its report will announce the exact term and conditions for Romania's and Bulgaria's membership to the European Union, and will be unbiased.
Head of the European Commission Delegation in Bucharest Jonathan Scheele stressed on Monday that significant progress was made in certain fields, but efforts are still needed for the fulfillment of the EU standards. The report will include recommendations for the same fields as those mentioned by the May report, he added.
Scheele voiced hope the European Commission's report will stress clearly what is good about Romania and what Romania still has to do until accession.
Scheele on Monday attended, alongside the Justice Minister Monica Macovei, the launch of a project on the institutional cooperation in the field of fighting organized crime.
The report which the European Commission will publish on Tuesday could recommend Romania's accession to the European Union on Jan. 1, 2007, but it is expected to be followed by a much more stricter monitoring compared to the countries which joined the Union in 2004.
The European Union is expected to specify a range of reforms that Romania and Bulgaria should implement immediately in order to avoid the imposition of sanctions after membership.
The measures, which the Commission deems necessary, refer to the food safety, allotment of funds for agriculture, the fight against corruption and justice. Enditem
