Special report: Tension escalates in Iraq

    BAGHDAD, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Two U.S. marines were killed in Iraq's western province of Anbar on Sunday, the U.S. military said on Monday.

    Two marines, assigned to the 5th Regimental Combat Team, were killed during operation in Anbar province on Sept. 24, the military said in a statement.

    The names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of next of kin, it added.

    Since the U.S.-led war in Iraq broke out in March 2003, about 2,700 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq, according to media count. Enditem
