LOS ANGELES, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- "Jackass: Number Two," a sequel starring Johnny Knoxville and his friends doing dangerous and often crude stunts, topped at North American theaters this weekend, according to figures released on Sunday.
The "Jackass" sequel debuted in theaters with about 28.1 million U.S. dollars, according to box office tracker Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc.
"Jet Li's Fearless" debuted in second place. The martial arts epic grossed about 10.6 million dollars.
Last week's winner, "Gridiron Gang," placed third, ahead of several new debuts. The film about a group of Los Angeles juvenile delinquents inspired by their football coach, brought in about 9.7 million dollars.
World War I dogfighting movie "Flyboys" debuted in fourth with about 6 million, according to the box office tracker.
In the fifth place was "Everyone's Hero," about a young boy who travels across the country during the 1932 World Series to return a baseball bat to Babe Ruth. The feature directed by the late Christopher Reeve brought in about 4.8 million dollars.
Brian De Palma's noir mystery "The Black Dahlia" slipped from second place to sixth, bringing in about 4.4 million dollars.
"All the King's Men," a drama about Louisiana politician Huey Long, debuted in seventh place with about 3.8 million.
Rounding out the top 12 were: "The Covenant" (3.3 million); "The Illusionist" (3.28 million); "Little Miss Sunshine" (2.9 million);" Invincible" (2.6 million); and "The Last Kiss" (2.5 million).
The top 12 films grossed about 81.9 million, down nearly 7 percent compared with 87.9 million grossed during the same weekend last year. Enditem
