Special report: Tension escalates in Iraq

    BAGHDAD, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi troops have captured the head of a major insurgent group in northeast of Baghdad, the state-run Iraqi television reported on Sunday.

    "The head of the 1920 Revolution Brigades and seven of his associates were arrested south of Kharnabat area in Diyala province by the Iraqi army," the television said without giving further details.

    The Brigade is known of attacking the U.S. troops only and not involved in the sectarian strife. Enditem
