Special report: Coup d'etat in Thailand
BANGKOK, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Members of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC)
are uncomfortable about change initiated by undemocratic means, but nonetheless
deem this week's coup d'etat as being necessary to end Thailand's protracted
political crisis, the Thai News Agency reported on Friday.
TCC Chairman Pramont Sutheewong was quoted as saying that the business community hopes
that the Council for Democratic Reform under Constitutional Monarchy will
appoint a prime minister who is well-versed in politics, economics and
social development, as well as being honest and transparent.
The face of the new government will be crucial to investor confidence, he said,
stating that he believed the new government will be in place in the next few
weeks and would work closely with the private sector for sustainable economic
growth to incorporate the King's self-sufficiency principles.
Pramont said the new government should continue to pursue Free Trade Agreement negotiations with varied countries, but it should make negotiations transparent to the public and make Thailand an equal partner in these talks. Enditem
