JERUSALEM, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- The public support for Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has plunged since the Israel-Hezbollah conflict ended in mid-August, according to a poll published on Thursday.
The poll, carried by the Yediot Ahronot daily, showed that only7 percent said that the prime minister was the most worthy figure to head the government.
According to the poll, leader of the right-wing Likud Binyamin Netanyahu led the pack, with a 27 percent approval rating. Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni received 14 percent, Deputy Prime Minister Shimon Peres 12 percent.
Closing the list is Defense Minister Amir Peretz with a 1percent approval rating.
A total of 499 people were surveyed. The poll has margin of error of 4.5 percent.
Meanwhile, another poll found that 68 percent of those interviewed were unhappy with Olmert's performance, compared to 40percent in a poll on Aug. 11, days before a ceasefire was declared.
The poll also found that if an election were held today, Netanyahu's Likud party would win 24 of 120 parliament seats, compared to just 16 for Olmert's centrist Kadima, which won the March 28 election with 29 seats. Enditem
