Special report: Tension escalates in Iraq
BAGHDAD, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- An American soldier shot dead in Baghdad on Wednesday, the U.S. military said on Thursday.
A soldier, assigned to Multi-National Division-Baghdad, was killed by small arms fire in northeast Baghdad at about 10:40 a.m.(0640 GMT) on Sept. 20, the military said in a statement.
The name of the soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, it added.
Since the U.S.-led war in Iraq broke out in March 2003, more than 2,680 U.S. soldiers have killed in Iraq, according to media count. Enditem
