BEIRUT, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora said Wednesday that Lebanon would be the last Arab country to forge a peace accord with Israel.

But he noted that the Lebanese government was keen on implementing truce with the Jewish state.

In an interview with al-Arabiya TV, Siniora said Lebanon had prevented Israel from achieving a victory in the recent 34-day conflict.

"This was achieved thanks to those who offered their lives to defend our country and those who struggled and remained in their towns, and also thanks to the diplomatic efforts exerted by the government," he added.

Asked if he would attend Hezbollah's victory rally on Friday, Siniora said that he had not been invited.

Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has called for a massive gathering in Beirut's southern suburbs on Friday to mark the group's "divine victory" over Israel during the conflict.

As for some opposition calls on his cabinet to resign, Siniora said the government had been up to the challenges, adding that the majority of the people supported his government.

Emphasizing the need to implement the Taif Accord, Siniora said it was in the country's interests to establish good relations with Syria.

He said the relations should be based on "mutual respect, the establishment of diplomatic relations and the demarcation of the borders in the Shebaa Farms." Enditem
