Special report: Army coup in Thailand
LONDON, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- The British Foreign Office confirmed that Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was expected in London later on Wednesday.
Thailand's Army Commander, General Sonthi Boonyaratglin, announced on Tuesday night that he had established a Reform Council to take over the Thaksin-led administration of the country.
A nationwide state of Martial law has been declared.
Gen. Sonthi told a news conference in Bangkok that a new prime minister would be named within two weeks, and new elections would take place in a year's time, once a new constitution had been written.
British Foreign Office also issued a travel advisory on Wednesday, to British visitors traveling in Thailand, to keep in touch with the British Embassy in Bangkok, and to avoid any demonstrations there. Enditem
