BEIJING, Sept. 19 -- On
it's 50th birthday, the BFI London Film Festival promises to be one of the most
impressive yet. A press launch in London's Leicester Square confirmed that this
year's event will open with the world premiere of Kevin Macdonald's Idi Amin
drama "The Last King of Scotland."
The Festival will host a steady stream of major
motion picture releases, world premieres, documentaries as well as career
interviews and master classes with the stars and film-makers of the featured
movies.
Just some of those attending will include actors
Dustin Hoffman, Peter O'Toole and Forest Whitaker, and directors Tim Burton,
Emilio Estevez and "The English Patient" director Anthony Minghella.
Director of The British Film Institute, Amanda Nevill
said that this year's Festival will boast a few extra special events for the
public.
Director of British Film Institute Amanda Nevill
said:"The other thing we're doing is the Festival has always traditionally had a
surprise film and this is a film where you turn up, buy your ticket, but you
have no idea what that film is going to be and thus it's always going to be a
premiere, there's lots of guessing games that build up beforehand. This year
we're not just doing it in one venue we're going to be doing a surprise film
simultaneously in fifty venues across London."
The London Film Festival runs from Oct. 18th to Nov.
2nd. It closes with a gala screening of Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's "Babel",
starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett.
