PARIS, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- French President Jacques Chirac on Monday proposed an international conference on Lebanon's reconstruction.

"We would like to participate in the reconstruction of Lebanon, because above and beyond the political solution ... there is Lebanon's reconstruction which requires a united international community," he told Europe-1 radio before leaving for New York to address the annual meeting of the UN General Assembly.

"I will propose notably an international conference which permits Lebanon's reconstruction thanks to international aid," he added.

France has pledged to send 2,000 troops to the reinforced UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), whose mission is to enforce the truce between Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah guerrillas. Enditem
