>>> | BEIJING,
Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong on Sunday called for
better people-oriented work in popularizing science.
The work must be based on daily life, which meets the
need of the public and is done for the public, Zeng said during his visit to the
Haidian Exhibition Hall where activities in various themes were being held for
the National Science Popularization Day.
Zeng, also a member of the Standing Committee of the
Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stood at the
table of the Beijing Red Cross Society, where workers were demonstrating to the
audience how to stop a wound from bleeding, bind up, and splint
fractures.
Zeng said that only people-oriented science
popularization work can raise public awareness of health and disease prevention.
This year's theme of the National Science
Popularization Day is Participating in Energy Conservation and Preventing
Diseases.
Since 2004, the Chinese Association for Science and
Technology (CAST) has designated the third Sunday of September as National
Science Popularization Day when science and technology organizations across the
country disseminate scientific knowledge to the public through various
activities.
In visiting the energy knowledge section, Zeng said
that more education of energy conservation should be done to cultivate the
public of saving every little energy that one could.
Zeng and other senior officials were pleased to see
the audience were mostly young Chinese.
The youth is the future of the country, and an
important force of disease prevention and energy conservation, Zeng said.
