Special report: Israel launches Gaza assault

GAZA, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Two home-made rockets launched by Palestinian militants from the Gaza Strip hit southern Israeli city of Sderot on Sunday, wounding slightly an Israeli civilian, Palestinian sources said.

The sources said that two rockets landed on a street only one km away from the Gaza Strip, causing damages to several parked cars in addition to the injury.

Meanwhile, Israeli Radio also confirmed the attack, saying that one Israeli was injured and two others suffered shocks.

The armed wing of the Islamic Jihad (Holy War) claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that it was a message to the Israeli army, which "continues its massacres against the Palestinian people."

Jihad is the only Palestinian faction that continues attacks against Israel after all factions unofficially refrained from military attacks following the coalition government deal reached between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the ruling Hamas movement.

Moreover, Jihad leaders refused to join the upcoming coalition government. Enditem
