Special report: Trial of Saddam Hussein
BAGHDAD, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- The trial of the toppled Iraqi
leader Saddam Hussein and six of his co-defendants resumed in a Baghdad court on
Thursday.
Saddam, his cousin Ali Hassan al-Majid, known as "Chemical Ali",
and five former commanders face charges of war crimes and crimes against
humanity for their role in Anfal operation in 1988, which the chief prosecutor
said left some 182,000 people dead or missing.
Saddam is awaiting a possible death sentence verdict for a
separate case involving the killing of some 148 Shiite countrymen in the village
of Dujail.
All the main charges in Anfal case could carry the death
penalty. Enditem
