GAZA, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian Islamic
Resistance Movement (Hamas) on Wednesday gave its positive response to a
national-unity government deal it has recently reached with President Mahmoud
Abbas.
In a statement sent to the press in response to the
new deal based on the Prisoners' Document of National Accordance (PDNA), the
governing movement said it welcomed the new deal and "anything which could ease
the suffering of the Palestinians".
Following a meeting in Gaza City with Prime Minister
Ismail Haneya, who is also a senior Hamas leader, Abbas announced Monday that
"the efforts on the political program of the national unity government have
ended."
According to the deal, the incumbent Hamas-led
government will be dismissed and replaced with a coalition government consisting
of at least Hamas and Abbas' Fatah, the biggest Palestinian factions.
In the Wednesday statement, Hamas voiced its
satisfaction for "the efforts to make the formation of the national-unity
government succeed", vowing to support the agenda of the coming national
coalition government that would be formed with in the coming few days.
As for the PDNA, the statement said that the document
"has drawn a comprehensive vision to tackle the realistic Palestinian issues on
all levels".
The PDNA, initiated by Palestinian prisoners in
Israeli jail, calls for an independent Palestinian statehood that lives in peace
alongside Israel.
But the document didn't call for "giving up the
principles and the national attitude" and didn't call for recognizing Israel
"openly or implicitly", Hamas stressed in the statement.
