BEIRUT, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Lebanese army
continued deploying in the south and advanced into seven more towns and villages
Wednesday afternoon, military sources said.
"Armored and logistics units of the Lebanese army advanced from their command headquarters in Tibnin and took position in the towns of Markaba, Houla, Taibeh, Deir Siryan,
Alman, Koseir, Shumeriya and Bani Hayan," the sources said, adding that the army
has to date taken positions in about 80 percent of the south.
However, the towns of Adaisseh and Kfar-Kila were not
included in the latest army deployment because of proximity of Israeli forces to
the two towns, the sources said.
"Adaisseh and Mais al-Jabal in Marjayoun were
excluded from the army deployment for security reasons," the sources said.
Lebanese troops started to deploy in the south on
Aug. 17 under a UN resolution which ended the Israel-Hezbollah conflict.
The resolution, unanimously adopted by the UN
Security Council, authorizes an increase of an existing UN peacekeeping force in
Lebanon to 15,000 troops to help Lebanese troops take control of southern
Lebanon as Israel withdraws in parallel.
Under the deal, Israel should transfer control of its
positions in southern Lebanon to the UN force, which will then turn them over to
the Lebanese army. Enditem
