KABUL, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Afghan police detained a Taliban commander and a foreign national in the central Ghazni province Wednesday, said Tafseer Khan, the provincial police chief.

"Policemen arrested a Taliban commander named Mullah Aminullah and a foreign national in Waghaz district at 11:00 a.m. local time during an operation," Khan told Xinhua.

However, he declined to tell the foreigner's identity, just saying an investigation was underway.

Ghazni has been a hotbed of Taliban and other anti-government insurgents, who attack government and foreign targets frequently.

Afghanistan is suffering from a rise of Taliban-linked violence this year, during which more than 2,300 people, mostly Taliban militants, have been killed. Enditem
