Special report: 5th anniversary of 9/11 terror attacks

ASTANA, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Second Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions on Wednesday passed a declaration vowing to support inter-faith and inter-culture dialogue while pursuing efforts to eliminate terrorism at its roots.

Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev, who is chairing the two-day meeting, announced the passage of the document at a press conference.

The declaration appeals to people of all religions across the world to condemn all forms of terrorism, saying justice can never be established through fear and bloodshed.

The use of terrorism is "a violation and betrayal of any faith that appeals to human goodness and dialogue," said the declaration.

Meanwhile, the declaration rejects all false inventions, the violent nature of any religion, or attempts to attribute terrorism to particular religions.

It called upon "all to work together to address and eliminate the social causes of terrorism, thus promoting human flourishing, dignity and unity."

Attended by 43 delegations from 20 countries worldwide, the congress, which opened here on Tuesday, covers various topics from freedom of belief to religious leaders' roles in improving international security. Enditem
