KABUL, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Two rockets were fired on Wednesday into the capital of Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan just hours before the arrival of President Hamid Karzai, but caused no casualties, an official told Xinhua.

The two rockets were fired by militants from unknown places into Jalalabad city at 7:30 a.m. local time, while Karzai arrived there at 10:00 a.m. local time, said Abdulgha for Khan, the spokesman for Jalalabad police department.

One rocket landed near the city's airport, causing no casualties, Khan said, adding the other fell into a civilian house but it was unexploded.

Karzai reached there to attend the completion ceremony for a road from Jalalabad to Khybar Pass on the Afghan-Pakistani border.

It is still unclear whether the attacks were touched off by Karzai's visit.

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf was supposed to attend the ceremony but canceled his trip for unclear reasons, a local official told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The road, which is built by a Pakistani company, is an important trade route between the two countries.

Militants frequently fire rockets to foreign and government targets in Afghanistan but commonly cause no serious casualties as the rockets usually fail to attack precisely.

In the past two weeks, Afghan capital Kabul were hit by at least six rockets from unclear locations in several attacks, while no casualties have been reported. Enditem
