Yemeni army and security trucks carry people killed
or injured in a stampede at Ibb city's football stadium where more than 50
people were crushed to death, a week ahead of polls already marred by

CAIRO,
Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- At least 40 people were killed and over 80 wounded in a
stampede on Tuesday at a Yemeni stadium, a Yemeni official sources said.
The sources said that the stadium where Yemen's
President Ali Abdullah Saleh was holding a pre-election rally at the time. The
stamped occurred just minutes after the president had finished his speech in the
run-up to the Sept. 20 presidential and local polls.
The victims were crushed to death when tens of thousands of people tried to gain entry into the sports stadium at the town of Ibb that was crowded with some 100,000 rally goers, according to the sources.
Other foreign media reported that some 50 people have been killed and at least 100 injured in the stampede at Ibb, about 180 kilometers south of Yemen's capital Sanaa. Enditem
