VIENNA, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- The 142nd Meeting of the Conference of the Organization
of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) ended here on Monday with
a communique reassuring adequate supplies.
The communique was released under the Chairmanship of its President, Edmund
Maduabebe Daukoru, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources of Nigeria and Head
of its Delegation.
The conference noted that growth in crude oil supply in recent years has
continued to exceed growth in demand - the rebound in non-OPEC supply in 2007 is
predicted to be at its highest level since 1984 and that market fundamentals
indicate a clear imbalance between supply and demand.
The conference reiterated that OPEC will continue its proactive policy of
supporting market stability by restoring a balance between supply and demand, at
prices reasonable to both producers and consumers and conducive to continued
world economic growth, especially in the developing countries, the communique
said.
The communique said the OPEC member countries would take the necessary steps
to ensure that supply and demand remained in balance, with prices at reasonable
levels, supplying to the market the needed volumes.
For this purpose, OPEC decided to review market
developments at its 143rd extraordinary meeting, to be held in Nigeria on Dec.
14,2006, and to take decisions as considered necessary. Enditem
