KABUL, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- The loud explosion happening on Monday evening in Kabul, capital of Afghanistan, was a controlled detonation, a spokesman for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) told Xinhua.
Maj. Luke Knittig said the explosion, which shocked the city at7: 15 p.m. local time, was a controlled detonation by ISAF at Kabul International Airport in northeastern Kabul.
Afghan police also confirmed that it was a "controlled detonation."
However, a deadly explosion ripped off eastern Kabul just outside of the U.S. embassy on Friday, killing 15 persons including two U.S. soldiers.
At least six rockets have also hit this city in several attacks in the past two weeks. Enditem
