Special report: Tension escalates in Iraq

    BAGHDAD, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- An American soldier was killed when insurgents attack his patrol in north of Baghdad, the U.S.military said on Monday.

    The soldier was shot dead on Sunday evening by small arms fire without providing further details, the military said in a statement.

    Since the U.S.-led war in Iraq broke out in March 2003, more than 2,660 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq, according to media count. Enditem
