JERUSALEM, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- The only solution to
the Palestinian issue is to eventually achieve a negotiated agreement, visiting
British Prime Minister Tony Blair said in an interview with local Haaretz daily
on Sunday.
Blair believed that Israel
should try to make progress or "you can end up with a sort of semi-state on the
Palestinian side, full of militias and gangs and trouble."
"Now my own view is that if we were able to revive
the Palestinian process that would be a huge part of persuading opinion that the
one issue where even quite moderate Muslims just feel frustration and anger -
that we were dealing with it now."
Thanks to Blair's efforts, Israeli Prime Minister
Ehud Olmert and Palestinian National Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas both made
commitments to resume contacts without preconditions.
Blair, currently visiting Israel and the Palestinian territories, is scheduled to arrive in Lebanon on Monday as part of his Middle East tour. Enditem
