Israel, Lebanon agree on ceasefire

BEIRUT, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora left for Riyadh on Sunday to thank Saudi Arabia for its political and economic support during the recent Israel-Hezbollah conflict, local media reported.

Siniora would hold talks with Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz about the latest situation in the region, as well as the economic aid granted to Lebanon, the reports said.

King Abdullah has offered to pay registration fees for all the Lebanese students in the state schools for the 2006-2007 academic year after hundreds of schools were destroyed in the Israeli offensive.

Up to now, Saudi Arabia has reportedly provided a total of 1.5 billion U.S. dollars in financial aid to Lebanon, devastated by a 34-day Israeli massive military offensive launched after Lebanese Hezbollah guerillas kidnapped two Israeli soldiers and killed eight others in cross-border attacks on July 12.
