Special report: Israel, Lebanon agree on ceasefire

    BEIRUT, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese Foreign Minister Fawzi Salloukh on Saturday urged the international community to press Israel to withdraw from Lebanon, local radio reported.

    Salloukh called on the United Nations to demand that after lifting a blockade, Israel withdraw from south Lebanon so as to allow the Lebanese forces to be deployed in the area.

    Israel has lifted its nearly two-month air and sea blockade on Lebanon last week, and European warships began patrolling Lebanese waters to stem weapons shipment for Hezbollah guerrillas.

    The minister also asked the world body to help settle dispute on the Shebaa Farms between Israel and Lebanon.

    Meanwhile, Salloukh accused Israel of using excessive force during its conflict with Hezbollah, such as using the internationally-banned cluster bombs.

    Lebanon has reportedly begun deploying forces in the south.

    There are still nine Israeli outposts in south Lebanon. Israel said earlier that it would never allow Lebanese forces to be deployed in the area before the UN interim forces were in place. Enditem
