LAS PALMAS, Gran Canarias of Spain, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Wu Bangguo met on Friday with Adan Martin Menis, president of the Autonomous Region of Gran Canarias, and Jose Sera, representative of the Spanish government to the islands.
Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's
National People's Congress, expressed his gratitude for the support the Gran
Canarias government has been giving over the years to Chinese fishing companies.
Wu said that the cooperation in politics, economy and
the humanities between China and Spain over recent years have created favorable
conditions for the regions of the two countries to cooperate.
In the future, the two sides can expand the scope of
cooperation to the fields of tourism and high-tech industries by taking full
advantages of the location and environment of the Canarias, Wu said.
Martin said the government of the Gran Canarias will
continue to play the role of a major connection point between Europe, Africa and
Americas and provide a new platform for cooperation between Spain and China in
all fields and give better service to Chinese companies.
Wu arrived here for a stopover on his way home after
the conclusion of his three-nation Latin America trip, which took him to Brazil,
Uruguay and Chile from Aug. 28 to Sept. 7.
He was scheduled to leave the Gran Canarias on
Saturday and return to Beijing on Sunday morning. Enditem
