Special Report: Wu Bangguo visits Brazil, Uruguay and Chile

    BEIJING, Sept. 8 -- China's top legislator has expressed hopes for an expanded partnership with Chile.

    Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, was speaking at an Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum in Santiago. Wu Bangguo said China and Chile have highly complementary economies.

    He said each side should give full play to its advantages and expand two-way cooperation. To this end, he proposed implementing their free trade agreement, deepening cooperation in copper and infrastructure, and promoting business cooperation.

    After the forum, Wu Bangguo met with Chilean Senate President Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle. Wu Bangguo arrived in Chile for an official goodwill visit on Tuesday. He's expected to wrap up his visit on Thursday.
