BEIRUT, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon on Wednesday appealed to the United Nations to oversee its territorial waters.
Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Seniora has written to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, asking him to arrange a mission to oversee Lebanese waters by the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon, including German troops, according to a statement issued by Seniora's press office.
The statement said the Lebanese government would provide comprehensive cooperation and coordination on that issue.
Israel reached a ceasefire with Hezbollah guerrillas last month, but has been keeping an aerial and maritime blockade against Lebanon, arguing that it is preventing weapons from being smuggled to Hezbollah.
On Wednesday, Seniora talked on phone with Annan, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, discussing a series of issues, including urging Israel to remove the blockade. Enditem
