    BAGHDAD, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- A car bomb went off near a police patrol in the northern Iraqi province of Nineveh on Wednesday, killing six policemen and wounding six others, a provincial police source told Xinhua.

    "A car parked on a road in the town of Sinjar, some 120 km west of the provincial capital of Mosul, detonated near a passing police patrol," the source said on condition of anonymity. The blast damaged a police truck, killing six policemen and wounding six others aboard, the source said.

    Earlier, a car bomb and a roadside bomb detonated at about 7:55 a.m. (0355 GMT) at Baghdad's northern neighborhood of Qahira in the morning rush hour, killing at least eight people and wounding up to 46 others, according to an Interior Ministry source.

    Violence has persisted in Iraq as daily car bombings and roadside bombs kill dozens of civilians as well as Iraqi security forces. Enditem
